Dr. David Oladipo originally hails from Nigeria, a country situated in the West of Africa. He moved to Canada in the winter of 2004 as a permanent resident through the Canadian immigration program. This was the beginning of the fulfillment of his aspiration to experience a North American Veterinary practice. Dr. Oladipo lived in Calgary for a year before eventually moving to Edmonton in 2006. Dr. Oladipo’s dream of becoming a veterinarian was actually rooted in series of conversations he had with his now deceased father who was passionate about animal health. There was also a strong influence from a true life story he read in a Readers Digest while he was in high school. It was about a man who was dragged into his house by his dog after he collapsed in the compound without any help in sight. His dog stayed with him until his son came to his rescue several hours later. This story created an indelible mark in Dr. Oladipo’s mind about the human-animal bond. In 1987, he entered a six year pre vet and veterinary training program. The six year program ended up becoming seven due to academic program disruptions in his native country at the time. He graduated in the spring of 1994 and experienced a year of National service, which is a way of integrating the multicultural diverse nation to forge unity in Nigeria. This was also a form of social education, which enables young Nigerians to temporarily live in other parts of the nation. Dr. Oladipo had a ten year combination of working in small veterinary clinics and house call services between 1995 and 2004. This did not satisfy his initial desire to pursue veterinary medicine. It was not always possible to translate knowledge into practice due to lack of equipment and client expectations. He then pursued the rigorous certification process and obtained his license to practice in Canada during the summer of 2008. Dr. Oladipo found a nest in Park Veterinary Centre in February 2009, which he is thankful to God for always. This has given him the opportunity to translate his boyhood dream into reality. He currently resides south of Edmonton with his wife, Bola (a pharmacist), and their two wonderful boys, Seyi and Dami. Dr. Oladipo is also pastor a growing church in the south of Edmonton. He hopes to be at Park Veterinary Centre for a long while, bringing comfort to our lovely patients and a smile to the faces of their owners.
